Fusion brows are one of the most natural and longest lasting permanent makeup eyebrow treatments available today. In this complete guide we walk you through everything you need to know about fusion brows in Toronto, also known as combo brows or hybrid brows, so you can decide if they are the right choice for your perfect eyebrows.
PMU: Semi-Permanent Makeup
Full, defined eyebrows frame your eyes, balance your features and pull your whole face together, and for many people they take a lot of effort, or a little help from a brow expert. If you were not genetically gifted with thick brows, or spent the 90s and early 2000s over plucking them, PMU semi-permanent makeup is the modern solution for beautiful, in trend eyebrows.
PMU is a semi-permanent cosmetic tattoo with several techniques, including microblading, nano brows, ombré and powder brows (microshading), and fusion or hybrid brows. In this guide we focus on the technique that gives the most natural, all skin type friendly and longest lasting result: fusion brows.
1. What Are Fusion Brows?
Fusion brows are a hybrid permanent makeup technique that combines two methods in one custom treatment. We first create fine, hair-like strokes the same way as microblading to mimic real brow hairs, then add a soft, gradient shading underneath and through the brow, the way microshading does, to build density, shape and a powdered finish. The two techniques fuse together, which is exactly where the name comes from.

The result is a hyper-realistic brow that has both the realism of individual strokes and the depth and staying power of shading. Up close it looks like your own natural brow hair, and from a distance it looks beautifully full and defined, like softly applied makeup that never smudges or washes off.
2. Why Should You Consider Fusion Brows?
Iconbrows fusion brows are perfect for anyone who wants to add definition, fill gaps, fix asymmetry or fully rebuild their eyebrows for better balance and symmetry. Because they combine strokes and shading, fusion brows often deliver the best healed result of any brow PMU service, and they suit clients who are not ideal candidates for microblading on its own.
You should consider fusion brows if you have one or more of these common brow concerns:
- Missing hairs or gaps in the arch, tail or body of the brow.
- Uneven or asymmetrical eyebrows.
- Thin, sparse or over plucked brows.
- Oily, combination or mature skin that does not hold microblading well.
- A desire for fuller, more defined brows without filling them in every day.
- Previous brow work that needs correcting or covering up.

3. Who Are Fusion Brows Ideal For?
One of the biggest advantages of fusion brows is how many people they suit. Where microblading is best for normal to dry skin, fusion brows work beautifully on almost everyone:
- Ideal for those who do not want to fill in their brows every morning.
- Ideal for those who want fuller, natural looking brows with extra definition.
- Great for oily and combination skin, where the shading helps the pigment last.
- Great for mature and thinner skin types that need a softer, more forgiving technique.
- Excellent for correction, recovery and rebuilding brows lost to over plucking, aging, genetics or illness such as chemotherapy.
If you have had permanent makeup or a brow tattoo done elsewhere, please contact us before booking so we can assess your brows and recommend the right correction or cover up.
4. How Long Do Fusion Brows Last?
Fusion brows last longer than microblading on its own, typically two to five years depending on your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure and skincare routine. The shading element helps the pigment hold, which is part of why fusion brows are so highly recommended for longevity.
Oily skin and active exfoliating products fade pigment faster, while a gentle routine helps your brows last longer. We recommend a colour boost every twelve to twenty four months to keep your fusion brows looking crisp and fresh, which is far less effort than drawing your brows on every single day.
5. What Are the Downsides of Fusion Brows?
Fusion brows have very few downsides, but we will always be honest about what to expect:
- You will still need the occasional plucking or threading to tidy stray hairs around your new shape. Iconbrows also offers eyebrow threading and shaping in Toronto for this.
- It is a two appointment service. Your brows are not truly finished until your complimentary Perfecting Touch Up, 4 to 8 weeks later.
- There is a short aftercare and healing period of about two weeks, where you protect the brows from water, makeup, sweat and sun.
- As with any pigment, dramatic changes to your natural brow colour are limited, so we match the pigment carefully to your hair and skin tone.
6. Do Fusion Brows Change the Shape of Your Eyebrows?
Only as much as you want them to. During your brow mapping we design a shape tailored to your facial proportions and your preferences. If you love a soft, natural brow we keep it subtle, and if you want a fuller, bolder shape we build that instead. You always review and approve the design before any pigment is applied.
7. Do You Have to Shave Your Eyebrows Before Fusion Brows?
No. There is no need to shave or remove your natural brows. We work over and around your existing hairs, weaving strokes and shading through them so the finished result blends seamlessly with your own brow hair.
8. Are Fusion Brows Painful?
Fusion brows are surprisingly comfortable. We apply a topical numbing cream before and during the treatment, so most clients feel only light pressure or a mild scratching sensation, and some even doze off. The service takes around three and a half hours, so bring your headphones and relax while we work.
9. Will Fusion Brows Make My Eyebrows Too Dark?
With an experienced provider like Iconbrows you do not need to worry. We always work conservatively, going slightly lighter and softer at the initial appointment so your skin can absorb the pigment naturally. Your brows will look bolder for the first few days, then settle into a soft, natural tone as they heal, and we perfect the final colour at your touch up.
10. How Much Do Fusion Brows Cost in Toronto?
At Iconbrows, fusion brows are CA $800 and include a complimentary Perfecting Touch Up, with the service taking about three and a half hours. A new client cover up or correction of previous work is CA $900. Across Toronto, brow PMU can range anywhere from around CA $400 to over CA $1,500, so it is worth choosing your artist on skill, reviews and healed results rather than price alone. You can see current pricing on our fusion brows service page.

The Fusion Brows Process
An Iconbrows fusion brows treatment takes about three and a half hours, and your complimentary Perfecting Touch Up four to eight weeks later takes a little less. A typical appointment follows these steps:
- Step 1: Consultation and brow mapping. We take measurements of your face and design your new shape with a brow pencil, then wait for you to review and approve it before we begin.
- Step 2: Pigment selection. We blend pigments to match your natural hair colour and skin tone for a result that looks like your own brows.
- Step 3: Microblading strokes. We create fine, individual hair strokes to rebuild and define the brow.
- Step 4: Microshading. We add soft, gradient shading through the brow for depth, density and longevity.
- Step 5: Review and aftercare. We refine the brows with you, provide aftercare instructions and contact details, and book your Perfecting Touch Up.

Fusion Brows Aftercare
Following your aftercare is the single biggest thing you can do to protect your healed result. Here are the key guidelines:
- Do not touch your new brows or the area around them for at least 24 to 48 hours, so they can heal undisturbed.
- After 24 hours, gently clean the brows with a fragrance free cleanser and water using clean hands, never a washcloth or sponge, moving in the direction of hair growth.
- Air dry or gently dab the brows with a clean towel, and apply only the aftercare serum we provide. Do not use vaseline, petroleum or other ointments.
- Do not pick, rub or scratch as the brows scab and flake. It is a normal part of healing, and picking can cause patchiness or scarring.
- Avoid direct sun, tanning beds, pools, saunas, steam rooms and hot baths for about three weeks.
- Avoid heavy sweating, the gym and intense activity for 7 to 14 days, and avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days.
- No makeup, botox or facials near the brows for about two weeks, and no chemical or exfoliating treatments for about four weeks.
- Once healed, wear SPF 30 to 50 over the brows when out in the sun to keep the colour from fading.
Please note: your fusion brows will look about 20 to 40 percent bolder and darker for the first 24 to 48 hours, then soften and lighten as they heal over roughly four to six weeks. Any unevenness is corrected at your Perfecting Touch Up. For more detail, see our aftercare instructions and PMU pre-care guide.
